How would you describe your own personal style?
What has inspired you more, your father David Hicks's legacy of design or the fact that you live in an island paradise?
They both inspire me equally as seen in my jewelery collections: HICKS ON HICKS collection. Many of my father's famous geometric patterns were inspired by his travels around the world. He would photograph every clue of decorative inspiration. I now do the same.
Two of his favorite Motifs were the hexagon, which inspired my first collection of Fine Jewelry and the Y, seen in my latest collection. The Y was inspired by the mosaics seen on the great Mosques of PERSIA (he would never say Iran, too common a word) The patterns fascinated and bewitched him.
ISLAND LIFE collection
Sea Urchin collection
I collect sea urchins, I sketch sea urchins, I have painfully stood on sea urchins. These extraordinary creatures are very much a part of my island life. The simple thrill of discovering these delicately patterned crusts bleached to a pale green or misty purple never fails to thrill me or my children. Getting them safely home with out the shell crumbling is quite another thing. My silver and diamond collection promise never to do that.
Palm Frond collection
Any one with a taste of the tropics understands the importance of the Palm frond. Shade. As simple as that. We built a house in a grove of palm fronds, our interiors feel naked with out vases of palm fronds, at dinners palm fronds decorate our dinning table. My children play in palm frond teepees. My dogs snooze beneath palm fronds. And the flagship of our garden is a gigantic fronded Bismarkia palm.
What 3 things do you not leave home without?
My Crabtree and Evelyn Clutch, filled with FDA approved essential products. The clutch can be used day or night. My India Hicks small gold 'I' Love Letter. i never take it off, its become a close friend. My i-phone, I am always traveling and want my 5 children to be able to reach me at any given moment, hopefully not always be asking to borrow money.
Since you live in a place most people go to spend their holidays, where are you planning to go to spend the holiday season?
As a family we travel so much in the term times so when the holidays arrive we are thrilled to stay on the island and not think of boarding a flight or being abused by airport security. By February we crave a little snow though and try to make the time during a mid term break to go skiing in Switzerland.
What is one of you most memorable Holiday staycations or vacations?
For 20 years as a model I travelled unceasingly and before that my parents would endlessly take us to fascinating sights in exotic locations....my father, never lacking confidence, would boldly drive us around private estates excitedly pointing out architectural details, my brother paying attention, my sister and I dreaming of ponies. Once, in Greece, many many years ago I remember my father insisting we look round someone's private yacht and finding to our horror the surprised naked owner's having a siesta in the master cabin.
