Jewels of the Kalahari is a fair trade and sustainable accessory collection developed by London-based Gem industry specialist, Anna Haber. Anna works with the Bushmen of the Kalahari. She is driven to create meaningful and sustainable businesses for the Kalahari community. The latest collection was created in collaboration with local craftsmen and British bespoke jewelry designer, Sabine Roemer. It fuses traditional materials and rich techniques with new materials like leather, silver, velvet and satin to make a sublime collection. Her project presents an opportunity to conserve and propel a rich heritage yet also brings a new means for economic self-sustainability.

What creative ventures are you working on at the moment? 

 

I am planning a trip to Botswana in the New Year to work on another project with the Bushmen of the Kalahari.  I am taking an amazing Indian artist and jewelry designer called Gurmit to collaborate together with the Bushmen on a new collection that will be very sculptural.

What is your favorite vacation destination? Where do you stay when there?

 

I don?t have a favorite vacation spot, I really like going to different places every time I get a chance. There is too much to see and explore in the world to keep going back to the same place twice.

 

 

How would you describe your personal style? 

 

Classic and modern with an ethnic twist!

 

 

What is the best shopping find you've ever made while traveling?  

 

In Mali I found the best jewelry. Huge cowrie shell necklaces.

 

 

Do you have any tricks or secrets for traveling in style?

 

Always bring a pashmina to cover yourself if needed, as well as for warmth. Pack silk pieces as they don?t take up space and they always look chic and work day to night. Jewelry to accessories!!!  

 

What are three things you have to bring every time you travel (aside from necessities like phone, wallet, passport, etc.)? 

 

Diary to write down ideas, thoughts, dreams.  Camera to take pictures for inspiration and memories.

 

What city has the best nightlife? What is your favorite spot to visit when there? 

 

Mumbai

 

 

What are three things every woman should have in her wardrobe?

 

Statement jewelry as it makes any outfit look unique and different every time.  Simple black dresses and tops to provide a back drop to beautiful jewelry.  A beautiful coat!
