Describe IndiaHicks in 3 words.
Understated, Modern and Classic.
Your collection of products keeps growing, what creative endeavors are on the horizon?
I am working on my collection of fine jewelry. On HSN- I have a line of Home accessories. I continue my relationship with Crabtree and Evelyn- I have home and beauty. So life is fairly full, I have to say. On top of that, ofcourse, we have the properties in the Bahamas, I have the shop, Sugar Mill, I have an e-commerce site. I have 5 children- All of which need love and attention. I think what is important for me at the moment. is not what is next, but making sure I am balancing all that I have now.
Since you wear so many hats, designer, wife, mother and business owner, can you give us a sense of what a day in your life is like?
I don't do this alone. I have a huge support- a system in place where by I have , what we call, a "Top banana" here at home. She helps with the children's homework, to making sure they have what they need for school, too cooking lunch, to really managing home life. Ofcourse my other half, David. works like I do so he's able to travel to a host of different places. With our schedules we take turns in being with the children. It is an enormous help. I am also very organised. My grandfather was the chief of combined operations during the war- so I have certainly inherited the organizational skills. I also don't watch a lot of television. I think thats a winning combination!
It?s evident that you have a passion for travel. What are some of your favorite cities to visit and why?
I love to travel. I think its one of the greatest educations one can have. I have been blessed to see so much of the world from taking a year off when I was 18, backpacking around the world. To the days when I was modelling and we were going from location to location. Even now, I still have that gypsy feel and urge to travel. From Nairobi to London to Mumbai- I find each city is exciting in itself because of it being a city. I decided that I would never live in a city again. I am better suited to the island life or the country life. So when I am in the city and there for a short period of time I get energised by the sheer speed of the city.
Describe your closet? What are some of your most treasured items?
An expensive collection of jeans! Here on the island it's very low key and I am very casual. I find that I dress more simply as the years go by. I don't have the time to be worrying about my wardrobe.
What are you wardrobe must-have?s for traveling?
At the moment a white fitted jacket and pair of canvas all-stars!
What are your summer holiday plans?
Most of the summer holidays are spent at home but we are also going to Positano in Italy.
What are the three items you are most coveting from L-atitude?
