Genevieve Jones is a designer, artist and member of the fashion elite. Her jewelry and accessories line is an eclectic, unique collection inspired by her vast world travels, innate creativity and a love of vintage that translates into timeless style. Genevieve has lived in New York, Lousiana, London and India, produces her line in Thailand, and has traveled nearly everywhere else. L-atitude caught up with her to find out about her line, her personal style and, of course, her travels.
L'atitude: What inspired you to begin your own line?
Genevieve Jones: I see jewelry as more permanent than fashion and typically connected to special memories like a gift from a loved one or something beautiful worn on a special occasion. My line is my personal interpretation of the beauty I find around me and I find it in so many different things, especially natural settings like the beach and the desert.
L: How has your time in Thailand inspired you and your designs?
GJ: I find inspiration for my collections in the beauty of my natural surroundings. When I visit a country like Thailand and spend time on the beaches, I am constantly collecting shells and unique rocks. Anything unique. I like to explore the local markets on my travels and find handmade goods that are specific to that place.
L: Are there places you go to for inspiration and new ideas?
GJ: Asia has such diverse and rich cultures. I especially enjoy Phuket and surrounding islands, where I spend time meditating and rebalancing. The new line has absorbed a lot from the worlds of magic and mysticism.
L: What are some must-haves from L-atitude for effortless style when traveling?
GJ: I love Anupamaa's Orange Metro Scarf for staying warm and cozy on my flights and it also makes a great sarong to cover up my Lola One Piece from Sabina Swims!
L: What is your favorite place to travel to?
GJ: I love traveling to Asia, specifically Thailand which is where I make my jewelry. When I'm waiting for my samples I usually leave Bangkok and go straight to the beaches along the Andaman Sea. Recently, I've also fallen in love with Singapore.
L: How would you describe your everyday style?
GJ: I wear classic pieces by modern designers and I love vintage, especially designer vintage. Overall it?s very easy, yet very unique.
L: Who in fashion has influenced you most?
GJ: It?s hard to pinpoint one person as an influence but I got into fashion at a very young age because I use to watch Style by Elsa Klensch on CNN every weekend and I digested everything she said.
L: What is your favorite global fashion find?
GJ: I found amazing vintage silk kimonos on my last trip to Tokyo that I wear over everything.
