Chinese New Year Greetings From Shop Latitude

Happy Lunar New Year! 

As we entered into the Year of the Rooster, I celebrated new beginnings with both excitement and apprehension. As an immigrant to the US, I feel emboldened and proud to call the US my home, when my friends...my community took to the streets to celebrate our shared values. Diversity strengthens our community. I witness that daily within my own team, as we’ve nurtured Shop Latitude with our diverse talents, backgrounds and opinions.

We feel impassioned this year, in particular, to continue Shop Latitude’s mission - to celebrate women, impeccable design and diverse cultures. Over the past few years, we’ve built a community of designers, artisans and customers who share this passion, and we look forward to telling their stories.

Last month, I met up with a high school friend from Hong Kong (my hometown), who has turned this passion into a business. She is a glamorous fashion stylist who felt compelled to use her skill-set to create and contribute to her community. Denise Ho, founder of Knotti, spent 2016 teaching low-income women from Hong Kong community centers how to knit. Combining her fashion aesthetic with their newfound skill set, these women can now work from home and increase their family’s income. 

Denise is just one of many women (and men) we’ve met, in the US and around the world, who are committed to empowering women.  By doing so, they've not just elevated their creativity, but also generated commerce in their local communities. 

As we travel the world this year, we hope you’ll join us in our pursuit of talent, but most of all…community.
