Dominican born, Miguelina Gambaccini, is as effortlessly chic as the clothes she designs. With an enviable jet set lifestyle, Miguelina?s eponymous collection manages to be both feminine, worldly and easily packable. We recently chatted with Miguelina about her inspiration and her summer plans!
Describe Miguelina in 3 words.
Jetset. Resort. Chic.
Can you describe your creative process? What are some of your inspirations when designing the collection?
Inspirations comes from my travels. I am constantly inspired by the trips I take. My collection is designed with the global girl in mind. I'm always on the lookout for new pieces that my customers can incorporate into their travel bag. For instance, I was seeing a lot of vibrant colors in Goa, so my latest swimwear was fabricated to match those hues.
Can you give us a sense of what a day in your life is like?
There's never a typical day in my life- I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing! I live near my showroom and office, so I can often be found running back and forth between home and work, but the walk clears my mind. I'm constantly traveling a lot for inspiration and to find new fabrics and patterns.
Its evident that you have a passion for travel. What are some of your favorite cities to visit?
I like Tulum in Mexico and have been going there for over 10 years. I love Tulum because I can get healthy while I am also vacationing. I love taking long walks on the beach and having dinner at Hardwood. I also love Phuket in Thailand with boat trips and snorkeling in Bamboo island. Another place I love is a fisherman town called Las Terrenas in the Dominican Republic. It is reminiscent of how Ibiza was years ago.
Describe your closet? What are some of your most treasured items?
I keep a closet just for traveling. I converted a room that was supposed to be a study into a closet for my seasonal clothing! It's filled with all my favorite getaway things, including my favorite Swimsuits, Brian Atwood and YSL shoes, YSL Vintage dresses, my Anndra Neen collection and my collection of 1930's nightgowns.
What are you wardrobe must have?s for when you travel?
My lace caftans, Sequence accessories from my dear friend Ariela Suster, K. Jacques sandals for day, and YSL at night.
What are your summer holiday plans?
My best friend, Brian Atwood is having his birthday in Mykonos in August. I plan on renting a house there. I'm also excited for a July trip to Mallorca!
What are the three items you are most coveting from L-atitude?
The Rachel Signature Caftan, Kate Scallop Lace Classic and Brigitte tunic.
