Horn and bone work truly represents our definition of the New Luxury: high quality, contemporary design paired with sustainable materials and traditional craft. The use of bone and horn in Africa has a rich history: in a culture where every part of the animal is considered sacred, the nomadic herding tribes of Kenya always ensure that no part of the animal is wasted. SOKO artisans source raw material from butchers in Nairobi, then carve and polish horn and bone into lustrous minimal forms. Their craftsmanship showcases the material‰۪s beautiful natural variation, making every piece one-of-a-kind.
Redefining the aesthetics of ethical fashion, SOKO creations are inspired by architecture and traditional tribal designs, yet made to appeal to the urban woman. SOKO artisans use locally-sourced and eco-friendly materials, such as recycled brass and reclaimed cow horn and bone.

Since brass is a natural alloy it will gradually patina over time with exposure to oxygen and moisture. If you prefer a bright sheen, this effect can be removed with a quick polish. All of our pieces can be polished with a brass cleaner (we use Brasso) and a soft cloth or paper towel. To clean using ingredients you may already have at home, mix lemon juice and baking soda into a paste, rub onto surface with a cloth, then rinse off and buff dry to a shine. To care for your horn jewelry, avoid exposure to excessive moisture or sunlight. Wipe clean with a soft cloth.
Keep away from water.
As this product is handmade, each is one of a kind and may vary slightly.
Veronica is a #BossLady, rewriting gender norms in one of Africa's largest slums. She began her career working as a receptionist at a bone craft company, learning the fundamentals of the craft. Her passion was ignited, and she left to start her own workshop. Today she is a successful business owner with four employees (including men and even elders) and trains young women in high-earning skills to make sure that they can overcome the barriers women too often face. She's a true leader in Soko's global tribe.
Wilkester is a craftswoman calling on her creativity to lead a thriving business and impact the community she lives in. Her inventive designs transform would-be waste, like up-cycled metals and ethical horn, into objects of beauty. She is inventive with her time as well, finding ways to both manage a team of four while also taking care of more than twenty orphans!
Wilfrida had a bold dream to lift herself and her family out of poverty. She took a risk and bought a single machine to craft jewelry, a step that transformed her life. Now on a path to financial independence, she's a role model for women in her community. A true go-getter, she's saving her earnings to purchase more machines to start her own business and help women pave their own paths to success.
Benta is the definition of a #Supermom. To her 7 children, she’s a loving provider. To her 11 employees, she’s a mentor and boss. Benta has been an entrepreneur since she finished school, first selling vegetables and sweaters she grew and knit herself. She now runs a fully-equipped workshop behind her family home. While her business success has brought her good fortune, she’s a mother first. Seeing her children, especially her daughters, grow up with access to education and positive role models is her greatest joy.
Kine is both a design innovator and social activist. His creations, be they bone or brass, are exceptional, infused with hints of international modernism as well as the aesthetic symmetry and balance of tribal designs and motif. Kine's pieces look as natural and fashionable on an international runway show as in Kibera, the slum in which he works at a community based organization, Kibera Arts Center. His goal is to grow his business to be able to not only support his family, but underprivileged youth in his community and their families as well. He hopes the skills they learn working with him will help them start their own businesses one day.
