Black & White Cotton Nantucket Handwoven Top

From India

MIRTH was started in 2016 by sisters Erin and Katie who have always loved a good caftan. Launched after discovering heritage textiles over the course of several years of travel and exploration, they created a line of comfortable pieces. The handmade fabrics sourced from artisan communities bring a story to each piece. MIRTH caftans are meant to be worn on the beach, for a night out and everywhere in between. With soft texture and colors, it's an effortless look whether dressed up or while lounging around.

the fan favorite nantucket top got a fall makeover-- with handloomed cotton in a heavier weight and a more tailored fit. handmade tassels embellish the neck and an inverted pleat dresses up the back.

the yarns are spun by hand and then the fabric is woven on a handloom by a co-op of women weavers in central india. this style of handmade cotton fabric is called khadi, a traditional indian fabric that gives a lofty and soft feel. the twisted yarns that make the stripe is a special method called dindori, native only to the rural region where it is made.

the co-op provides training, childcare and ethical employment to village women who otherwise would have few alternatives, providing great opportunity to these women. this organization also operates a handloom school to further help sustain the dying craft of handloom weaving.
