We have always admired Deszo designer Sara Beltran?s surf chic style. She is the only gal we know that can effortlessly rock over 60 carats of diamonds with jeans and a tee. It?s not surprising that we turned to Sara for our first clothing collaboration; our goal was to emulate her own surf savvy style.
To our amazement, Sara reimagined one of her favorite Mexican tunics, replacing the traditional floral embroidery with her own iconic shark's teeth motif. This boho-meets-surf-girl design was produced by women artisans from Zinacantan and Nachig Mexico; two small indigenous communities in the highlands of Chiapas. This area is known for using the beauty of the plentiful flower plantations that surround them for embroidery inspiration. Many of you probably don?t realize that you may own something embroidered by these woman, this is ground zero for 1970?s-era embroidered hippie tops.
The women here are taught to embroider at the age of 10 or younger, providing a way in which to help with the household income. Now, these women are teaching their own children to do the same. We can imagine they were surprised and intrigued by Sara?s fresh take on a Mexican Classic. Shop now, we are sure these will go fast!
