End-of-Summer Festival Fashion
Perhaps it all started in August of 1969, when over 500,000 people flocked to a 600-acre farm in Bethel, New York for Woodstock. Since then, music festivals have found their own stake in popular culture. They are a hub of artistic expression, for both musicians and fans alike. At any music festival, there are always two shows going on simultaneously: the performer's show on stage, and the fashion show in the audience. Music festivals are the ultimate "see and be seen" occasions and people shop for weeks prior to their favorite festival to find just the right outfit.
Every April, fashion blogs are plastered with photos from the Coachella Music Festival in Indio, California. The masses have become familiar with the image of bohemian girls and fedora-topped boys with palm trees, a ferris wheel and the mountainous Palm Desert as their back drop. It's even regarded as glamorous. Celebrities sightings are a dime-a-dozen at Coachella, as well as many other music festivals, if you can recognize the starlets under their oversized sunglasses and unconventional semblances. Music festivals have a culture of their own, fostering an environment of free-spirited expression. The combination of celebrity glamour and artistic emphasis leaves little wonder as to why music festivals have made such a mark on society's fashion.
Here's our guide to dressing like a festival fashionista at the hottest the end-of-summer events:
San Francisco hosts this music festival that is considered California's best after the infamous Coachella. Artists this year include Foo Fighters, Fitz and the Tantrums, Passion Pit, Bloc Party, Beck and Skrillex.
Set in the outskirts of Paris, this festival is one of the biggest in France and Europe. Their notable artists this year include The Black Keys, Foster the People, The Shins, Childish Gambino, and Of Monsters and Men.
This festival, taking place in Nevada's Black Rock Desert, is more focused on art than music, drawing an eclectic crowd all the same. Burning Man is a temporary metropolis dedicated to community, art, and self-expression. Everything built during the festival is burnt at the end of the festival in a giant celebration.
The UK's premiere music festival is hosting everyone from Stevie Wonder and Florence + The Machine to Frankie Ocean and Major Lazer. Bestival Bonus: This year's theme is 'Wildlife.' Rawwwr!
The Full Moon Party happens - you guessed it - every full moon on the white sandy beaches of Thailand where over 10,000 people participate in a dance party from dusk 'til dawn. The next celebrations are August 4th and September 1st, but you can catch them all year round.
